Ms. Burkhart joined PPA as a psychotherapist in 1997. She has a master's degree in counseling from the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh. She is a Nationally Certified Counselor, a North Carolina Licensed Professional Counselor and a Certified Grief Counselor.

She has over 20 years of experience in the mental health field. Prior to 1997 she worked as a grief therapist at Hospice for eight years. Other counseling experiences include the Department on Aging and inpatient work.

She treats clients with depression and anxiety disorder. Ms. Burkhart is trained in a variety of treatment modalities including cognitive behavioral therapy, which focuses on changing limited or unhealthy thinking patterns. This results in improved feelings and behavior. She helps her clients develope new tools and coping behaviors to improve their mood, choices, overall health and relationships. Ms. Burkhart works in our Clemmons office.

She has extensive training and experience in working with adult clients and their families dealing with all types of grief issues and life stressors. She works very closely with the other members of the PPA staff to best meet the clients’ overall needs.
